Job Description

Junior Legal Counsel (Healthcare & Agro) — CIEL Limited

CIEL Limited seeks a Junior Legal Counsel to support its Healthcare (C-Care) and Agro-industry (Alteo) business verticals from CIEL House, Ebene Cybercity. C-Care operates a network of clinics and pharmacies across Mauritius, while Alteo is one of the world's largest sugar producers with estates in Mauritius and East Africa — creating a distinctive legal practice at the intersection of healthcare regulation and agricultural law.

The Junior Counsel will handle commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, employment matters under the Workers' Rights Act 2019, and support corporate governance across CIEL's healthcare and agro-industry subsidiaries. The role offers an early-career pathway into in-house practice at one of Mauritius's most diversified conglomerates, with exposure to the Sugar Industry Efficiency Act 2001, healthcare licensing, and environmental regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and review commercial contracts for C-Care healthcare and Alteo agro-industry operations
  • Advise on employment law compliance under the Workers' Rights Act 2019
  • Support corporate governance and board documentation for CIEL healthcare and agro subsidiaries
  • Research regulatory developments in healthcare licensing and sugar industry regulation
  • Handle basic litigation support and external counsel coordination
  • Assist the Legal Manager with M&A due diligence and transaction support

Requirements

  • Barrister or Attorney admitted by the Mauritius Bar Council with 1–3 years' post-admission experience
  • Interest in healthcare regulation, agricultural law, or environmental compliance
  • Knowledge of the Companies Act 2001 and Workers' Rights Act 2019
  • Basic understanding of the Sugar Industry Efficiency Act 2001 and environmental legislation
  • Good drafting and analytical skills
  • LL.B. from a recognised institution with strong academic record
