Position Overview
Job Description
The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) is seeking a Legal Analyst for its Market Supervision team in Wellington. The FMA is New Zealand's independent financial regulator, responsible for enforcing the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 (FMCA) and supervising licensed market participants. This is an excellent entry-level role for a recently admitted lawyer seeking a career in financial regulation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with market surveillance and monitoring of NZX-listed issuers for continuous disclosure compliance
- Review financial service provider licence applications and ongoing compliance under the FMCA 2013
- Research and draft briefing papers on emerging regulatory issues (fintech, crypto-assets, managed funds)
- Support enforcement investigations into insider trading, market manipulation, and misleading conduct
- Analyse product disclosure statements and managed investment scheme documentation
Requirements
- Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand (or eligible for admission)
- 0-2 years PQE; LLB from a New Zealand university
- Interest in financial markets, securities regulation, or corporate governance
- Strong analytical, research, and written communication skills
