Legal Counsel – Intellectual Property & Brand Protection

AB InBev on the Grand-Place in Leuven is seeking an IP Legal Counsel to protect the company's extensive portfolio of over 500 beer brands worldwide, including Stella Artois, Budweiser, Leffe, and Hoegaarden. Belgium's rich brewing heritage makes IP protection of these iconic brands a critical function.

What You Will Do

  • Manage trademark portfolios for key Belgian and global brands at EUIPO and WIPO
  • Handle trademark enforcement actions including oppositions, cancellations, and domain name disputes
  • Advise on brand licensing, co-branding agreements, and sponsorship contracts
  • Support M&A transactions with IP due diligence and brand valuation
  • Advise on geographical indication protection for Belgian beer appellations

Responsibilities

  • Manage and enforce AB InBev's trademark portfolio in assigned markets
  • Coordinate with outside counsel on IP litigation and enforcement worldwide
  • Advise marketing teams on brand usage, packaging compliance, and advertising clearance
  • Conduct IP due diligence for acquisitions and partnerships
  • Monitor counterfeit and grey market activity affecting AB InBev brands

Requirements

  • Belgian Bar admission or equivalent legal qualification
  • Master in Law; specialization in IP Law preferred
  • 3-6 years of IP law experience, preferably in consumer goods or FMCG
  • Experience with EUIPO, WIPO Madrid System, and Benelux IP Office (BOIP) filings
  • Fluent in English; French or Dutch is an advantage
  • Knowledge of EU trade mark law and geographical indication protection
