Internship Description
Fonterra Co-operative Group offers a paid 12-week legal internship in its Co-operative Affairs legal team at 109 Fanshawe Street, Auckland. As the world's largest dairy exporter, Fonterra provides a unique in-house experience at the intersection of trade law, food safety regulation, and global supply chain management.
Programme Details
- Duration: 12 weeks (November 2026 - February 2027)
- Compensation: Paid — approximately NZ$1,000/week
- Eligibility: 2nd or 3rd year LLB students at a New Zealand university
What You Will Do
- Assist with researching export certification requirements under the Animal Products Act 1999
- Review supply contracts and co-manufacturing agreements for the NZ dairy supply chain
- Research DIRA 2001 obligations and Fonterra's co-operative governance framework
- Attend legal team meetings and cross-functional sessions with trade, regulatory, and operations teams
- Present a research project on an emerging trade law or food safety topic
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of LLB at a New Zealand university
- Interest in trade law, food regulation, agricultural law, or in-house practice
- Strong research and communication skills
