Legal Intern — Government Service at the Attorney General's Chambers
The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) offers a 3-month internship for law students interested in government legal work. Interns rotate through the AGC's Prosecution, Drafting, and Civil Divisions, gaining broad exposure to legislative drafting, criminal prosecution, and government advisory work under Brunei's dual legal system.
What You Will Learn
- Observe criminal prosecutions and trial proceedings conducted by State Counsel
- Assist the Drafting Division with basic legislative research and drafting tasks
- Support the Civil Division in preparing legal opinions for government ministries
- Learn about Brunei's dual legal system encompassing common law and Syariah law
- Attend AGC internal seminars and professional development sessions
- Gain understanding of the role of the Attorney General in Brunei's constitutional framework
Duration: 3 months (paid internship — BND 600/month)
Note: This internship is open to Brunei citizens and permanent residents enrolled in law degree programmes.
Responsibilities
- Rotate through AGC divisions gaining exposure to government legal work
- Observe court proceedings and attend internal seminars
- Assist with legal research and basic drafting tasks
Requirements
- Brunei citizen or permanent resident currently enrolled in a law degree programme at UBD, UNISSA, or overseas
- Strong academic record and interest in public service
- Good research and writing skills in English and Malay
- Interest in criminal law, legislative drafting, or government advisory work
Compensation
B$600 - B$600/year
