Internship Description

Legal Intern – IP & Entertainment at Sony Group Corporation

Sony Group Corporation invites applications for a legal internship within its Legal & Compliance Division, focusing on intellectual property and entertainment law. Based at Sony's headquarters in Minato-ku, Tokyo, this programme offers a rare opportunity to experience legal work at the intersection of technology, entertainment, and intellectual property.

Programme Overview

Sony's legal internship runs for 3-4 weeks during the summer (July-September). The programme is designed for law students with a passion for IP, entertainment, or technology law. Sony's diverse portfolio — spanning PlayStation, Sony Music, Sony Pictures, Aniplex, and consumer electronics — provides an exceptionally broad range of IP and entertainment law exposure.

What You Will Experience

Interns will work on matters involving the Copyright Act (著作権法), the Trademark Act (商標法), the Patent Act (特許法), and the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (個人情報保護法 / APPI). You will assist with content licensing reviews, trademark clearance searches, and privacy impact assessments for new products and services. The programme offers a unique window into how a global entertainment and technology company manages its IP portfolio.

This hybrid internship allows for flexible work arrangements while ensuring meaningful in-office collaboration. Social events and networking opportunities with Sony's legal team are included.
