Legal Trainee – EIB Legal Directorate

The European Investment Bank in Kirchberg offers a traineeship in its Legal Directorate. The EIB's traineeship programme is one of the most competitive in Luxembourg, attracting young lawyers from across the EU to work on sovereign and project finance lending, EU institutional law, and sustainable finance at the EU's bank.

As a trainee, you will assist senior legal counsel on lending operations, bond issuance documentation, and institutional legal matters, gaining experience at the intersection of public international law and international finance.

What You Will Do

• Assist with drafting and reviewing EIB loan agreements and guarantee documents
• Research EU institutional law, EIB Statute, and TFEU provisions
• Support the team on sustainable finance and climate action lending documentation
• Draft legal research memoranda and internal advisory notes
• Assist with bond issuance documentation and capital markets legal matters

• Support senior legal counsel on lending and capital markets matters
• Conduct legal research on EU and international finance law
• Draft research memoranda and internal notes
• Attend team meetings and EIB-wide training sessions
• Complete assigned legal research and analysis projects

• Enrolled in or recently completed Master in Law at a recognised European university
• Strong interest in banking law, development finance, or EU institutional law
• Fluent in English and French; additional EU languages are an advantage
• EU citizenship required
• Strong academic record and legal research skills
• Interest in climate finance and the European Green Deal
