Patent Examiner – Legal Division
The Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO / 특허청) is seeking a Patent Examiner for its Legal Division at Government Complex Daejeon, 189 Cheongsa-ro, Seo-gu, Daejeon. Elevated to ministerial level in October 2025, KIPO is Korea's premier IP authority, and you will examine patent applications, adjudicate validity disputes, and contribute to Korea's IP policy development.

Key Responsibilities
- Examine patent applications for novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability under the 특허법 (Patent Act)
- Conduct prior art searches using Korean and international patent databases (KIPRIS, Espacenet, USPTO)
- Draft examination reports, office actions, and decisions on patent grant or refusal
- Adjudicate invalidation trials and correction trials at KIPO's Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (IPTAB)
- Support Korea's participation in PCT international search and examination as an International Searching Authority
Requirements
- Korean 변호사 licence or Korean Patent Attorney (변리사) qualification with 3-5 years of experience
- Technical degree in engineering, computer science, chemistry, or life sciences
- Knowledge of the 특허법, Trademark Act, and Design Protection Act
- English reading proficiency for international patent examination
Compensation
₩4,500,000 - ₩6,500,000/year
