Internship Description

Regulatory Legal Internship — Financial Services Commission (FSC)

The Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Mauritius offers a competitive 6-month unpaid legal internship programme at its headquarters in Ebene Cybercity. The FSC internship provides unparalleled exposure to financial services regulation at the heart of Mauritius's international financial centre — an exceptional credential for aspiring financial services lawyers.

Interns are placed in the Legal and Enforcement Division, working alongside FSC legal officers on GBC licensing review, regulatory enforcement, and policy development. The programme provides access to the Financial Services Act 2007, the Securities Act 2005, and the VAITOS Act 2021 — covering the full regulatory architecture of Mauritius's non-banking financial services sector from the regulator's perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Assist legal officers with GBC licensing application review and compliance assessment
  • Research regulatory issues under the Financial Services Act 2007 and Securities Act 2005
  • Support enforcement proceedings including documentation and case preparation
  • Attend internal Legal Division meetings and training sessions
  • Prepare research memoranda on international financial regulatory developments
  • Observe FSC Board meetings and regulatory consultations with industry stakeholders

Requirements

  • LL.B. from the University of Mauritius or equivalent recognised institution (graduate)
  • Strong academic record in corporate law, financial regulation, and commercial law
  • Interest in financial services regulation and the Global Business sector
  • Knowledge of the Financial Services Act 2007 and Companies Act 2001
  • English and French proficiency required
  • Successful completion of the FSC internship selection process
  • Commitment to the full 6-month internship duration
