Job Description

Banking & Finance Associate — Skrine

Skrine, one of Malaysia's premier law firms, is seeking a Banking & Finance Associate to join its market-leading finance practice in Kuala Lumpur. The associate will work on a diverse portfolio of conventional and Islamic banking transactions, advising Malaysian and international financial institutions on lending, structured finance, and regulatory compliance with Bank Negara Malaysia requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate facility agreements, security documents, and intercreditor arrangements for syndicated and bilateral lending facilities
  • Advise licensed banks and development financial institutions on Bank Negara Malaysia regulations and the Financial Services Act 2013
  • Structure Islamic financing facilities including murabahah, musharakah mutanaqisah, and commodity murabahah transactions in compliance with the Islamic Financial Services Act 2013
  • Assist in debt capital market transactions including sukuk issuances, medium-term note programmes, and corporate bond offerings
  • Conduct due diligence on borrowers and review collateral packages for real estate-backed and project finance facilities
  • Prepare legal opinions and regulatory filings for Bank Negara Malaysia and the Securities Commission Malaysia

Requirements

  • Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya with 3-6 years PQE in banking and finance
  • Strong knowledge of the Financial Services Act 2013, Islamic Financial Services Act 2013, and Bank Negara Malaysia guidelines
  • Experience drafting loan documentation and security instruments under Malaysian law
  • Familiarity with Islamic finance principles and Shari'ah-compliant financing structures
  • LL.B. from a recognised university; holders of Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) preferred
  • Completed chambering with a reputable Malaysian law firm
  • Excellent English drafting skills; proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia is required
