Job Description

Employment Law Associate Solicitor — DLA Piper, Manchester

DLA Piper is seeking an Employment Law Associate Solicitor to join its busy employment practice in Manchester. The firm's employment team advises major employers across the UK on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law, from day-to-day HR advisory work to complex Employment Tribunal litigation and large-scale restructurings.

Manchester is a key hub for DLA Piper's national employment practice, and the team works closely with colleagues in London, Leeds, and Birmingham to deliver seamless employment law advice to multinational clients.

Key Areas of Work

  • Unfair dismissal and discrimination claims before the Employment Tribunal
  • TUPE transfers and business restructurings
  • Settlement agreements and executive terminations
  • Employment aspects of M&A transactions
  • Restrictive covenants and team moves

Responsibilities

  • Advise employers on day-to-day employment law queries and HR issues
  • Conduct Employment Tribunal litigation, including drafting ET3 responses and witness statements
  • Advise on TUPE transfers, redundancy consultations, and business reorganisations
  • Draft and negotiate settlement agreements, restrictive covenants, and service agreements
  • Support the employment aspects of corporate M&A transactions
  • Deliver employment law training and updates to clients

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor of England and Wales with 1-3 years PQE in employment law
  • Experience in Employment Tribunal litigation, including unfair dismissal and discrimination claims
  • Strong understanding of the Employment Rights Act 1996, Equality Act 2010, and TUPE Regulations 2006
  • Experience advising on settlement agreements, redundancy processes, and restructurings
  • Knowledge of Working Time Regulations, National Minimum Wage, and whistleblowing protections
  • Excellent client-facing skills and ability to provide pragmatic, commercial advice
