Key Responsibilities
- Advise on compliance with Iraq's Environmental Protection Law No. 27 of 2009
- Manage environmental impact assessment legal requirements for expansion projects
- Handle environmental incident response and regulatory reporting
- Advise on flaring reduction commitments and associated regulatory framework
- Support community grievance mechanisms and environmental complaint resolution
- Monitor emerging environmental legislation including climate-related regulations
- Coordinate with Iraq's Ministry of Environment on permitting and compliance
Requirements
- Law degree with environmental law specialization or relevant experience
- 3-6 years of environmental law or HSE legal experience, preferably in the oil and gas sector
- Knowledge of Iraqi environmental legislation and Ministry of Environment procedures
- Understanding of international environmental standards (IFC Performance Standards, World Bank EHS Guidelines)
- Arabic and English language skills
- Willingness to be based in Basra with field visits to operational areas
Compensation
IQD5,000,000 - IQD8,500,000/year
