Intellectual Property Associate

Shearn Delamore & Co, home to one of Malaysia's largest and most established intellectual property practices, is seeking an IP Associate to join its team in KLCC, Kuala Lumpur. The role involves handling trademark, patent, and copyright matters before the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) and the Malaysian courts.

Key Responsibilities

• File and prosecute trademark and patent applications before MyIPO, including responding to examiner objections and oppositions
• Draft and negotiate IP licensing agreements, technology transfer agreements, and franchise agreements
• Advise clients on copyright protection under the Copyright Act 1987 and enforcement strategies against infringers
• Handle IP litigation including trademark infringement, passing off, and patent validity disputes before the High Court
• Conduct IP due diligence for M&A transactions and advise on IP portfolio management strategies
• Advise on trade secret protection and confidential information disputes under Malaysian law

• Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya with 2-5 years PQE in intellectual property
• Experience with trademark and patent prosecution before MyIPO
• Knowledge of the Trademarks Act 2019, Patents Act 1983, and Copyright Act 1987
• Experience in IP litigation or dispute resolution is an advantage
• LL.B. from a recognised university; CLP holder
• Completed 9-month chambering period with a Malaysian law firm
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage large IP portfolios
