Job summary
This is the entry and training grade for degree holders in the legal cadre. The officer works under the guidance of a senior officer.
Legal services function
The cadre advises the Authority on legal matters and supports the coordination and management of the legal function, including assistance with Board secretarial services.
Duties and responsibilities
- Drafting legal documents, instruments, legal opinions and briefs.
- Conducting research on specific legal areas.
- Prosecuting cases.
- Compiling criminal case files for watching brief before mainstream courts.
- Handling pre-litigation and litigation of legal disputes and inquiries.
- Drafting contracts, pleadings, legal instruments and internal policies.
- Conducting legal research and preparing legal opinions and memoranda on matters relevant to the Authority.
- Providing and interpreting legal information.
- Participating in policy development and advising on legal and policy issues.
- Compiling relevant information required on case files and communicating to the Attorney General and external advocates.
- Providing legal risk reviews and advising on risk mitigation.
- Vetting and negotiating contracts, formal agreements and other legal instruments for execution.
Job specifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
- Membership to the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
- Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
- Current and valid practising certificate.
- Computer proficiency.
