Job Description
KIPI, Kenya's national IP office responsible for patent, trademark, and industrial design registration, seeks a Legal Officer to support IP examination, opposition proceedings, and public awareness programmes. This government position offers stability and deep exposure to Kenya's growing IP ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Examine patent and trademark applications for compliance. Handle opposition and cancellation proceedings. Advise on IP licensing agreements and technology transfer. Represent KIPI in IP disputes before the Industrial Property Tribunal. Support capacity building and IP awareness initiatives.
Requirements
LLB from a recognized university. Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. 2-3 years PQE in intellectual property law. Knowledge of Industrial Property Act 2001, Trade Marks Act, and Copyright Act 2001. Familiarity with WIPO treaties (PCT, Madrid Protocol).
Compensation
KSh120,000 - KSh200,000/month
