Job Description

Sanlam Kenya, part of the Sanlam Group — one of Africa's largest financial services conglomerates, is seeking a Legal Officer to support its legal function. The role involves providing legal advisory services, managing contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and handling insurance-related litigation. The Legal Officer will work closely with business units to manage legal risk across the organization.

Responsibilities

Provide legal advisory services to business units on contractual, regulatory, and compliance matters. Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements and insurance contracts. Manage external counsel and oversee litigation matters. Ensure compliance with Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) requirements and other applicable regulations. Support corporate governance and board secretarial functions.

Requirements

LLB degree from a recognized university. Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate. Minimum 3 years post-admission experience in a corporate legal department or busy law firm. Knowledge of insurance law, contract law, and regulatory compliance. Strong analytical and drafting skills.
