Legal Officer (Licensing & Advisory) — Financial Services Commission
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) seeks a Legal Officer for its Licensing and Advisory Division at Ebene Cybercity. The FSC processes thousands of GBC licensing applications, fund authorisations, and management company approvals annually — requiring a dedicated legal team to review applications for compliance with the Financial Services Act 2007 and subsidiary regulations.
The Legal Officer will review GBC and fund licensing applications, draft advisory opinions on the interpretation of the Financial Services Act 2007, and provide legal support to the FSC's operational divisions. This role offers early-career legal professionals direct immersion in the regulatory framework that underpins Mauritius's international financial centre — an exceptional foundation for a career in financial services law.
Responsibilities
- Review GBC, fund, and management company licensing applications for legal compliance
- Draft advisory opinions on the interpretation of the Financial Services Act 2007
- Assess substance declarations and beneficial ownership filings for GBC applications
- Provide legal support to the FSC's Supervision and Surveillance divisions
- Research international regulatory best practices and contribute to policy development
- Liaise with management companies and applicants on licensing documentation queries
Requirements
- Barrister or Attorney admitted by the Mauritius Bar Council with 2–4 years' post-admission experience
- Knowledge of the Financial Services Act 2007, Companies Act 2001, and Securities Act 2005
- Understanding of Global Business Corporation (GBC) structuring and licensing requirements
- Good analytical and legal research skills
- Experience in a law firm, management company, or regulatory environment preferred
- LL.B. from a recognised institution with strong academic record
- Bilingual English and French required
Compensation
Rs55,000 - Rs80,000/year
