Position Overview
Job Description
The Technion — Israel Institute of Technology is seeking a Patent Portfolio Manager to manage and grow its world-class patent portfolio from the Haifa campus. The Technion holds thousands of patents across breakthrough technologies in AI, quantum computing, medical devices, and advanced materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Technion's patent portfolio including invention disclosures, prior art searches, and prosecution strategy
- Coordinate with Israeli and international patent attorneys on patent filings at the Israeli Patent Office and international offices (USPTO, EPO, WIPO)
- Evaluate invention disclosures from Technion researchers and recommend patentability strategies
- Handle patent oppositions, re-examinations, and validity challenges
- Support technology licensing negotiations by providing IP valuations and freedom-to-operate analyses
- Monitor competitor patent activity in key technology areas
- Manage relationships with external patent counsel and control prosecution budgets
Requirements
- Israel Bar Association membership or registered Israeli patent attorney qualification
- 4-8 years of patent prosecution or IP management experience
- Science or engineering degree (MSc or PhD in a STEM field preferred) in addition to legal qualification
- Knowledge of Israeli Patent Law 5727-1967 and PCT/EPO/USPTO prosecution procedures
- Experience with university or research institution IP management is valued
- Fluent Hebrew and English
- Familiarity with Israel Innovation Authority IP transfer regulations
Compensation
₪35,000 - ₪48,000/year
