You will advise technology companies, financial institutions, and public sector bodies on technology contracts, UK GDPR compliance, and emerging technology regulation. The Manchester office is a major centre for the firm's national tech practice.

Key Work Areas

  • UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 compliance
  • AI regulation and the UK's pro-innovation approach to AI governance
  • Cybersecurity incident response and NIS Regulations
  • Open source licensing and software development agreements

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate technology agreements including SaaS, outsourcing, and software licensing contracts
  • Advise clients on UK GDPR compliance, data processing agreements, and DPIAs
  • Support ICO investigations and data breach notification procedures
  • Advise on AI governance frameworks and responsible AI deployment
  • Assist with technology aspects of corporate M&A transactions
  • Deliver client training on data protection and technology law developments

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor of England and Wales with 1-3 years PQE in technology, data protection, or commercial IP
  • Strong understanding of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and ICO guidance
  • Experience drafting and negotiating technology contracts (SaaS, IaaS, outsourcing, software licensing)
  • Knowledge of AI regulation developments, including the UK's AI Safety Institute framework
  • Understanding of NIS Regulations 2018 and cybersecurity legal requirements
  • CIPP/E qualification or equivalent data protection certification is desirable
