Job Description

GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing a wide range of secretarial and administrative support functions in a legal environment. Examples include: exercising control over the supervisor's calendar for all appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences; receiving telephone calls and visitors, screening those which could be handled without supervisor's help; reading, screening, and controlling incoming mail; preparing necessary documents for investigative and litigative steps; organizes electronic case files, discovery materials, exhibits and other legal documents; performing a variety of special assignments of a one-time or recurring nature for the supervisor; and providing the supervisor with information, feedback, opinions, suggestions, and recommendations on various administrative matters and topics. GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing a wide range of high-level secretarial and administrative support functions in a legal environment. Examples include: reviewing all outgoing correspondence prepared for the supervisor's signature, e.g., action documents, case files, legal documents, and reports; composing a variety of written material for the supervisor's signature; developing a variety of recurring reports and documents which involve obtaining information from staff, subject files or other sources; arranging conferences and meetings for the supervisor; and organizing electronic case files, discovery materials, exhibits and other legal documents. GS-10: To be eligible at the GS-10 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing a wide range of complex, high-level secretarial and administrative support functions in a legal environment. Examples include: exercising control over the supervisor's calendar for all appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences with complete authority for commitments of time; arranging conferences and meetings for the supervisor, including preparing agenda, notifying participants, and developing and assembling background information as required; attending meetings and conferences; providing the supervisor with information, feedback, opinions, suggestions, and recommendations on various administrative matters and topics; and integrating output from different software types, e.g., tables produced by database applications and charts and graphs produced by electronic spreadsheet applications, into word processing or desk top publishing text. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)-The CTAP provides eligible surplus and displaced competitive service employees in the Department of Justice with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your Department of Justice component has notified you in writing that you are a surplus or displaced employee eligible for CTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your CTAP eligibility, 2) you apply under the instructions in this announcement, and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy. To be well qualified, you must satisfy all qualification requirements for the vacant position and receive a score of 85 or better on established ranking criteria.
