Senior Associate — International Arbitration
Position Overview
Job Description
Hoet Peláez Castillo & Duque, one of Venezuela's most prestigious law firms, is seeking a Senior Associate for its International Arbitration practice in Caracas. You will handle investment treaty disputes, commercial arbitrations, and enforcement proceedings involving Venezuelan state entities and private parties.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in ICSID, ICC, and UNCITRAL arbitration proceedings involving Venezuelan parties
- Draft arbitration pleadings, witness statements, and legal memoranda in Spanish and English
- Advise on bilateral investment treaty (BIT) claims against the Republic of Venezuela
- Handle recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards under the Venezuelan Arbitration Law (Ley de Arbitraje Comercial) and the New York Convention
- Coordinate with international co-counsel on multi-jurisdictional dispute matters
Responsibilities
- Lead arbitration cases for the firm's international dispute resolution practice
- Manage relationships with international arbitration institutions
- Mentor junior associates on arbitration procedures and advocacy
- Present at conferences on Venezuelan investment arbitration
Requirements
- Law degree (Abogado) from a Venezuelan university; LLM in International Arbitration preferred
- Registered with the Inpreabogado
- 7-10 years post-qualification experience in international arbitration or complex litigation
- Fluent in Spanish and English; French a plus
- Knowledge of Venezuelan Arbitration Law, ICSID Convention, and ICC Arbitration Rules
Compensation
Bs.S8,000 - Bs.S13,000/year
