Position Overview
Job Description
Baker McKenzie's Caracas office is recruiting a Senior Associate for its International Trade & Sanctions practice. You will advise multinational corporations and Venezuelan enterprises on navigating the complex sanctions landscape, export controls, and trade compliance issues affecting Venezuela.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on US (OFAC), EU, and Canadian sanctions affecting Venezuelan entities and transactions
- Structure transactions to ensure compliance with Executive Order 13884 and related Venezuela sanctions programmes
- Draft sanctions compliance policies and procedures for multinational corporations operating in or with Venezuela
- Conduct sanctions screening and risk assessments for clients with Venezuelan exposure
- Coordinate with the firm's global trade and sanctions teams on cross-border matters
Responsibilities
- Lead sanctions advisory engagements for the Caracas office
- Build relationships with multinational clients navigating Venezuela's sanctions environment
- Supervise associates on trade compliance matters
- Contribute to the firm's global sanctions knowledge management
Requirements
- Law degree (Abogado) from a Venezuelan university; LLM in International Trade Law preferred
- Registered with the Inpreabogado
- 6-9 years post-qualification experience in international trade, sanctions, or regulatory compliance
- Fluent in Spanish and English (bilingual drafting essential)
- Strong knowledge of OFAC regulations, EU sanctions framework, and Venezuelan foreign trade law
Compensation
Bs.S8,000 - Bs.S14,000/year
