Senior Legal Counsel — Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB)

The Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB), the largest and oldest banking group in Mauritius, seeks a Senior Legal Counsel for its Legal and Compliance Division at MCB Centre, Port Louis. MCB's legal team is the most substantial in-house banking legal function in the Indian Ocean region, supporting domestic banking, international cross-border lending, and MCB's subsidiary operations in Madagascar, Maldives, and Seychelles.

The Senior Legal Counsel will manage complex credit documentation, structured finance transactions, loan recovery proceedings before the Supreme Court, and regulatory compliance under the Banking Act 2004 and Bank of Mauritius guidelines. MCB's MUR 500+ billion balance sheet generates high-value legal work spanning trade finance, project finance for infrastructure and hospitality, and anti-money laundering compliance under FIAMLA.

• Manage complex credit documentation for MCB's corporate and institutional lending portfolio
• Advise on regulatory compliance with the Banking Act 2004 and Bank of Mauritius prudential guidelines
• Handle loan recovery proceedings and enforcement of security before the Supreme Court
• Support cross-border lending operations for MCB's international subsidiaries
• Advise on FIAMLA compliance, KYC, and anti-money laundering frameworks
• Provide legal opinions on structured finance, trade finance, and project finance transactions

• Barrister or Attorney admitted by the Mauritius Bar Council with minimum 8 years' post-admission experience
• Extensive banking and finance law experience in a law firm or in-house banking environment
• Deep knowledge of the Banking Act 2004, Bank of Mauritius guidelines, and FIAMLA
• Experience with structured finance, syndicated lending, and cross-border banking transactions
• Litigation experience for debt recovery before the Supreme Court of Mauritius
• LL.B. from a recognised institution; LL.M. in banking or finance law preferred
• English and French proficiency required
