Position Overview
Job Description
BHP is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for its Minerals Australia division at 171 Collins Street in Melbourne. You will provide strategic legal support for BHP's iron ore, copper, nickel, and coal operations across Western Australia, South Australia, and Queensland, handling major contracts, regulatory approvals, and joint venture matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiate and manage mining services agreements, offtake contracts, and joint venture documentation
- Advise on environmental approvals under the EPBC Act 1999 and state mining legislation
- Handle Native Title agreements and Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) under the Native Title Act 1993
- Support M&A transactions including asset sales, farm-ins, and royalty arrangements in the resources sector
Requirements
- Admitted as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction; 6-10 years PQE
- Significant resources/mining sector experience at a top-tier firm or major resources company
- Knowledge of Native Title Act 1993, EPBC Act, and state mining legislation
- Willingness to travel to operational sites as required
