Job Description

Stikeman Elliott LLP is seeking an Associate for its Intellectual Property practice at its Toronto office. You will advise technology companies, pharmaceutical firms, and startups on patent, trademark, and copyright matters across Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on patent prosecution and enforcement under the Patent Act (Canada) and coordinate with CIPO
  • Handle trademark registration, opposition, and enforcement proceedings under the Trademarks Act
  • Draft and negotiate IP licensing agreements, technology transfer agreements, and software development contracts
  • Advise on copyright compliance under the Copyright Act, including digital rights and fair dealing
  • Support IP due diligence for M&A transactions involving technology and life sciences companies

Requirements

  • Called to the Bar in Ontario (LSO member)
  • 3-5 years post-call experience in IP law
  • JD/LLB; science or engineering background an asset for patent work
  • Experience with CIPO filings and IP licensing
  • Strong drafting skills and commercial awareness

Responsibilities
