Tax Associate

Wong & Partners, Baker McKenzie's member firm in Malaysia, is seeking a Tax Associate to join its Tax, Trade & Wealth Management practice in Kuala Lumpur. The role involves advising domestic and international clients on Malaysian tax law, transfer pricing, and cross-border tax structuring.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on Malaysian corporate tax, withholding tax, and real property gains tax under the Income Tax Act 1967
• Handle transfer pricing documentation and disputes with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN)
• Advise on Malaysian tax incentives under the Promotion of Investments Act 1986 and Labuan Business Activity Tax Act 1990
• Structure cross-border investments and holding structures leveraging Malaysia's double taxation agreements
• Advise on sales tax and service tax compliance under the Sales Tax Act 2018 and Service Tax Act 2018
• Support M&A transactions with tax due diligence and tax-efficient deal structuring

• Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya with 2-5 years PQE in tax law
• Strong knowledge of the Income Tax Act 1967, Promotion of Investments Act 1986, and Malaysian transfer pricing rules
• Experience in tax advisory, tax disputes, or corporate tax compliance
• LL.B. from a recognised university; CLP holder; professional tax qualifications (CTIM, ACCA, CPA) are an advantage
• Understanding of Labuan tax framework and international tax planning structures
• Excellent analytical and research skills
• Proficiency in English; Bahasa Malaysia proficiency is required
