Upstream Legal Adviser at Brunei Shell Petroleum
Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) is recruiting an Upstream Legal Adviser for its Seria office. The role involves providing day-to-day legal support to BSP's upstream exploration and production operations, including contract management, procurement support, and regulatory advisory across Brunei's onshore and offshore petroleum fields.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on upstream operations including drilling, well services, and production optimisation contracts
- Review and negotiate procurement contracts, service level agreements, and vendor terms
- Advise on Brunei's petroleum licensing regime under the Petroleum Mining Act (Chapter 44)
- Handle land access and surface rights issues for onshore operations
- Advise on joint venture partner relationships and operating committee governance
- Support HSE and environmental compliance for upstream activities
Responsibilities
- Provide legal support for BSP's upstream exploration and production operations
- Manage contracts and procurement legal matters
- Advise on regulatory compliance and partner governance
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer admitted in Brunei, Malaysia, UK, or Australia
- 4-8 years of experience in energy law, commercial law, or in-house legal roles
- Law degree from a recognised university
- Experience with upstream oil and gas operations is highly valued
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Fluent in English; Malay is an advantage
Compensation
B$4,000 - B$6,000/year
