Job Description

Compliance Officer (AML/CFT) — Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB)

MCB Group seeks a Compliance Officer specialising in Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) for its Port Louis headquarters. With Mauritius recently exiting the FATF grey list and undergoing enhanced scrutiny of its financial sector, AML/CFT compliance is the highest priority for the island's banking sector — and MCB, as the systemically important bank, leads the industry standard.

The Compliance Officer will implement and monitor MCB's AML/CFT framework under the Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2002 (FIAMLA), the United Nations (Financial Prohibitions, Arms Embargo and Travel Ban) Sanctions Act 2019, and Bank of Mauritius Guideline on AML/CFT. The role involves transaction monitoring, suspicious transaction reporting to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), and coordination with the Bank of Mauritius on regulatory examinations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and enhance MCB's AML/CFT compliance framework under FIAMLA
  • Review and file suspicious transaction reports (STRs) with the Financial Intelligence Unit
  • Conduct enhanced due diligence on high-risk customers, PEPs, and correspondent banks
  • Coordinate Bank of Mauritius AML/CFT regulatory examinations and remediation
  • Deliver AML/CFT training across MCB's domestic and international operations
  • Monitor sanctions screening systems and ensure compliance with the UN Sanctions Act 2019

Requirements

  • Barrister, Attorney, or compliance professional with 4–6 years' experience in AML/CFT
  • Knowledge of FIAMLA, the UN Sanctions Act 2019, and Bank of Mauritius AML/CFT guidelines
  • Understanding of FATF recommendations and mutual evaluation processes
  • Experience with transaction monitoring systems and suspicious transaction reporting
  • Familiarity with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) reporting framework
  • Degree in law, finance, or compliance; ICA or ACAMS certification preferred
  • Fluency in English; French proficiency advantageous
