Job Description

Energy & Resources Associate — Ashurst LLP, Spitalfields

Ashurst LLP is seeking an Energy & Resources Associate Solicitor to join its top-ranked energy practice at the London Fruit and Wool Exchange in Spitalfields, London. Ashurst's energy team is consistently recognised by Chambers UK and Legal 500 as a market leader for oil and gas, renewable energy, and energy transition work.

You will advise major energy companies, utility providers, and infrastructure investors on complex energy projects, including offshore wind, solar PV, carbon capture, and conventional oil and gas operations across the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) and internationally.

Key Practice Areas

  • Renewable energy project development and financing
  • Oil and gas upstream contracts (JOAs, farm-in/farm-out, PSAs)
  • Energy regulatory advice under the Energy Act 2023 and NSTA licensing
  • ESG and climate-related legal advisory
  • Carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) projects

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate project agreements for renewable energy and oil and gas transactions
  • Advise clients on UK energy regulatory requirements and licensing conditions
  • Support project finance and M&A transactions in the energy sector
  • Conduct due diligence on energy assets and corporate acquisitions
  • Advise on ESG compliance, climate-related disclosures, and environmental permitting
  • Collaborate with international teams on cross-border energy mandates

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor of England and Wales with 3-6 years PQE in energy, projects, or infrastructure
  • Experience with energy project agreements (PPAs, EPCs, O&M contracts, JOAs)
  • Understanding of UK energy regulation, including Ofgem, NSTA, and BEIS/DESNZ frameworks
  • Knowledge of environmental law, planning consents, and ESG reporting requirements
  • Strong commercial drafting and negotiation skills
  • Experience with project finance structures is desirable
