Legal Specialist – Banking Supervision

FINMA, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority in Bern, is seeking a Legal Specialist for its Banking Supervision division. As Switzerland's prudential regulator, FINMA oversees banks, insurance companies, and financial market infrastructures.

You will contribute to the supervision of Swiss banking institutions, analyze compliance with licensing conditions, and support enforcement proceedings against regulated entities.

What You Will Do

  • Analyze bank compliance with capital adequacy, liquidity, and governance requirements
  • Support on-site supervisory reviews and off-site monitoring activities
  • Draft supervisory decisions, rulings, and enforcement orders
  • Advise on licensing applications and changes of control in supervised institutions
  • Contribute to FINMA circulars and regulatory policy development

Responsibilities

  • Conduct prudential supervision of assigned banking institutions
  • Prepare supervisory assessments and regulatory correspondence
  • Support enforcement proceedings and sanctions
  • Contribute to regulatory policy and rule-making initiatives
  • Liaise with international supervisory bodies (FSB, BCBS)

Requirements

  • Swiss MLaw required; Anwaltspatent is an advantage
  • 3-5 years of experience in banking law, financial regulation, or supervisory work
  • Strong knowledge of the BankG, BankV, FINMAG, and Basel III/IV standards
  • Fluent in German; good working knowledge of English and/or French
  • Analytical mindset and ability to process complex financial and legal information
  • Swiss citizenship or C permit preferred due to public sector requirements
