About the Role
UNHCR Jordan is seeking a Paralegal for the Legal Aid and Protection team based in the Irbid field office. The Irbid sub-office serves refugee communities in northern Jordan, and the paralegal will provide frontline legal assistance and support to persons of concern.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal information and referrals to refugees and asylum seekers in northern Jordan on civil documentation, residency, and access to services
- Assist with the preparation of refugee status determination (RSD) case files and interview summaries
- Conduct community outreach and legal awareness sessions in refugee hosting areas and Zaatari camp
- Liaise with local legal aid providers, the Jordan Bar Association Irbid branch, and government authorities
- Maintain case management databases and track legal aid referrals
- Translate legal documents between Arabic and English and interpret during legal counselling sessions
Requirements
- LLB from a recognised Jordanian university or diploma in legal studies
- 0-2 years of experience in a legal, humanitarian, or social services environment
- Knowledge of Jordanian legal framework relating to refugees and civil documentation
- Fluency in Arabic required; working knowledge of English preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity when working with vulnerable populations
- Willingness to travel within northern Jordan and to conduct field visits
