Job Description

Senior Oil & Gas Counsel — Petronas

Petronas, Malaysia's national petroleum corporation headquartered at the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in KLCC, is seeking a Senior Oil & Gas Counsel to join its Legal Division. The role involves advising on upstream exploration and production contracts, LNG trading agreements, and energy regulatory compliance across Petronas's global operations spanning over 50 countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate production sharing contracts (PSCs), risk service contracts, and joint operating agreements for upstream operations
  • Advise on regulatory compliance with the Petroleum Development Act 1974 and Petroleum (Income Tax) Act 1967
  • Handle LNG sale and purchase agreements, spot cargo transactions, and pipeline transportation agreements
  • Support Petronas's international operations on cross-border energy transactions and host government agreements
  • Manage international arbitration matters and disputes arising from energy contracts
  • Advise on ESG and energy transition legal issues affecting Petronas's sustainability commitments

Requirements

  • Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya with minimum 10 years PQE, including at least 5 years in oil and gas or energy law
  • Deep knowledge of production sharing contracts, petroleum regulations, and international energy law
  • Experience in international arbitration (ICC, LCIA, SIAC, or AIAC)
  • Familiarity with the Petroleum Development Act 1974 and related Malaysian energy regulations
  • LL.B. from a recognised university; LL.M. in energy law, international law, or related field is preferred
  • Excellent negotiation skills and ability to manage complex multi-party transactions
  • Willingness to travel internationally for project-related legal matters

Compensation

RM20,000 - RM30,000/year
